Welcome! I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am to get this blog, this website, off the ground. I’m a middle school teacher by day, reader by night. Back in 2018 I was looking for something new to stretch my brain cells. I’ve been doing a lot of nonfiction writing over the years, reflecting and sharing my thoughts on teaching. A friend suggested I try my hand at writing fiction. As a teacher, I figured that would benefit my students, I could learn more about how to teach them fiction writing. As to what I should write, I’m a huge romance reader, so I turned to what I love.
In the last two years I’ve finished writing two books and one short story. The short story is scheduled to be published this summer in an anthology. The two books are currently being revised.
All three of my stories take place in a small town in central Illinois. Loosely based on my own hometown, I want to explore friendships, love, and quirky characters in this town of Highland that I’ve created. It is somewhere I’ve grown to love and I hope you will too.
So here on my blog I plan on sharing a bit about my writing journey. I’ve also created a newsletter. This is something I’m almost as excited about creating as I am about my books. There you’ll get a message around once a month from me. I’ll share reading recommendations – romance that I read for me as well as books aimed at kids, since I read a lot for them. I’ll also include recipes that I love, things I’m excited about, and hopefully it will be a bit of positivity that pops into your inbox and makes you smile. Please subscribe if that sounds like something you’d love too.

Hi Kat! Welcome to the …. whatever this crazy writing world is. Ha! I’m fairly new to the scene also. Finishing up my MFA in Creative Writing and wrapping up a few stories. Ok, like several… several several. Anyway, I’m looking forward to following your journey.
