Oh, friends. I believe I’ve already shared my immense love of everything Kate Canterbary in my newsletter before. And while I don’t plan to make this blog a book review blog, sometimes you just have to share the love. This book is one of those times.
Recently I’ve been on a rereading binge. As readers of my newsletter will find out this week, I’ve gone back to a favorite series and been devouring the titles while longing to disappear in that world. And then, Boss in the Bedsheets came out.
See, the way Kate writes is both a pleasure and a bit of pain for me. Her dialogue is unparalleled. Characters go through really heavy stuff at times, yet I’m laughing with tears streaming down my face. On the flip side, as someone trying to get her own books off the ground and actually published, reading a book of Kate’s gives me the severe feelings of why even bother. Or, holy crap, how does someone write like this? This is all lumped into the knowledge that I desperately wish we lived in the same town because I’d want to be her friend. So there’s that.
In this title, Ash is headed from Colorado to Boston after a work trip. He has the fortune/misfortune to be seated on the plan next to a woman named Zelda. After an interesting plane ride and some crazy amazing banter, Zelda ends up working for Ash and essentially doesn’t leave his side for the rest of the book.
There’s oodles of other things I could tell you, but I want to leave you with this: Ash is a grumpy, growly hero, which I love. You get to see so much of their relationships on the page, not to say this is a low conflict book, which I do love, but I enjoy spending time with the characters. I love when everything isn’t finally resolved in the last two percent of the book, but I never got to see what their relationship would actually look like, you know? I mean I wanted to wrap my arms around these two and just bask in the glow of what was forming between them, all while Zelda kicked Ash’s life back into order.
And the sex scenes were steamy too.
Such a great book. Head on over to get this one ASAP. It’s currently in Kindle Unlimited if you are part of that program. Otherwise it’s $3.99. And if you haven’t read any of Kate’s book, remedy immediately. I’d start with the Walsh series. The first book there is Underneath it All. You can thank me later.
